Our Founding Philosophy

    1.    Chinua Achebe was correct about the Trouble with Nigeria being simply and squarely that of a failure of leadership. But it is more correct to think that it is that of mental orientation, because at the very heart of failed leadership is the inability to lead, which stems from the mind.
2.       Whatever happens to a man happens to him in his mind. So says Prof. Ben Okwu Eboh. Truth be told, it all happens in the mind; we act our thoughts.
3.       That the ‘human mind is at birth a blank slate upon which nothing has been written,’ as championed by John Locke, is one of the greatest discoveries in human history. The young human mind, by this, is a fertile ground upon which we cultivate whatever we will – as family and society.
4.       If we know the good life, we can teach it; virtue can be taught. It was Aristotle who held this, and is as true today as it was true for him.
5.       Behavior modification is an ingenious breakthrough in psychology. By this amazing discovery, people can be reformed through value re-orientation.
6.       If you plan for a hundred years, as against just one or merely ten, teach the people and reap a hundredfold. It was K’uan Tzu who advised this. The mind is, therefore, the ‘prime site’ for anchoring sustainable development.
7.       Meaningful and functional education is one that embraces the 3H’s – Head, Heart and Hand. It was Heinrich Pestalozzi who held this, and its truism is so compelling.  A good-Head, a humane-Heart and a skillful-Hand make for an ideal citizen.
8.       And, we have spent too much time speculating and advancing arguments as to the way forward. Now, we need to move forward by actually moving…
